Start with decisions
A dashboard should answer decisions, not display every available field.
For each metric, write the decision it supports and the action it should trigger.
Define KPI ownership
Each KPI needs a source system, owner, refresh frequency, calculation rule, and exception threshold.
Design for exception visibility
Strong dashboards show blocked work, delayed approvals, aging items, missing documents, and unusual movement before summary totals.
